Makis Ablianitis is an inspired composer and one of the most important guitar players in Greece. His relationship with music began at the age of 15 when he got his first guitar. He studied harmony andcounterpoint as well as orchestration and fugue. He concluded his studies at the Berklee Music College of Boston with a scholarship. The period of his studies at Berklee was decisive for his later course as a musician, because at the same time of his studies, he had the ability to play with musicians of the Boston jazz scene.
His debut took place in 1997 with the album ‘FLAME KEEPER’ followed by his second album ‘BAHAR’, featuring the world famous Indian flute player, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, soon became a hit album been certified platinum. More than ten compilations with his music released in U.S.A, Europe, Israel, Middle East and Japan.
On January 2004 was released MOSAIC, the album of the famous Greek singer Maria Farantouri (featuring among others Glen Velez, Fuat Saka, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ross Daly), including 3 compositions of Makis Ablianitis and made all the arrangements of the album.
In the spring of 2004 he formed the group “HOT ORGANIC TRIO” with organist Ioannis Monos. The trio plays original songs and jazz standards, with the distinctive sound of guitar- hammond organ- drums.
On December 2004, released the album ‘BAHAR Live under the sky’, with songs from the ‘BAHAR’ cd, and new songs that recorded live during his tours all over the world and on 2008, released his new album ‘KISMET’.
Makis Ablianitis except his numerous participations on festivals and concerts allover the world, he is also involved with the tuition of jazz music by teaching guitar, modern harmony and orchestration at various Conservatories.
His private guitar collection counts more than sixty guitars, most of them archtop jazz guitars including many Eastman archtops, he is using exclusively on live concerts, clubs and tv appearances.
